IELTS Speaking Part 2 Topic

Daily Routine

Here are some of the questions asked and example answers:

1. Describe one of your typical days.

You should say:

  • How do you start your day
  • How long have you been following this routine
  • Your favourite time and activity of the day.

and explain what do you do in a typical day of your life.

Example Answer

So, I usually start my day by waking up around 7 a.m. I’m not exactly a morning person, so the first thing I do is reach for my phone to turn off the alarm. After a bit of grogginess, I drag myself out of bed and head straight to the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee. That’s my essential fuel to kick-start the day.

I’ve been following this routine for quite some time now, probably a couple of years. I find that having a consistent morning routine helps me feel more organized and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.

My favorite time of the day is usually in the late afternoon or early evening. That’s when I take a break from work or other responsibilities and dedicate some time to unwind and do something I enjoy. It could be going for a walk in the park, reading a book, or catching up with friends. Whatever it is, I find that taking this time for myself helps me recharge and maintain a good balance in my life.

As for the rest of my day, it typically involves a mix of work, errands, and leisure activities. I might spend the morning tackling tasks on my to-do list, whether it’s work-related projects or household chores. In the afternoon, I’ll usually take a break for lunch and maybe squeeze in some exercise or a quick nap if I have time.

After that, it’s back to work or whatever else I need to get done. Evenings are usually reserved for winding down, whether it’s cooking dinner, watching a movie, or spending time with loved ones.

Overall, my days are pretty busy but fulfilling. I try to find a balance between productivity and relaxation, making sure to prioritize self-care and activities that bring me joy. It’s all about finding what works for me and sticking to a routine that helps me feel happy and fulfilled.

2. Describe a time of the day that you like.

You should say:

  • what time of day it is?
  • what you do at that time?
  • who are you usually with?

and explain, why you like it?

Example Answer

One of the highlights of my day is in the late afternoon, usually around 4 p.m.

During this time, I make a conscious effort to take a breather from the usual hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s like hitting the pause button to recharge my batteries and focus on a little self-care. Now, what I do during this special hour varies depending on my mood and the vibe of the day.

If the weather’s nice, I love stepping outside for a leisurely walk. There’s something magical about the late afternoon sun casting its golden glow over everything. I’ll wander through a nearby park or just stroll along the streets of my neighborhood, taking in the sights and sounds of nature. It’s a chance to clear my head, soak up some Vitamin D, and marvel at the beauty of the world around me.

But, you know, on other days, I crave a different kind of escape. So, I’ll retreat to the comfort of my home and cozy up with a good book. There’s nothing quite like losing myself in a captivating story, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s like traveling to another world without ever leaving my couch, and it’s a great way to unwind and decompress after a long day.

Now, during this cherished time of day, I’m usually flying solo. And you know what? I kind of love it that way. It’s a moment of peace and solitude in an otherwise chaotic world. I get to be completely in tune with myself, without any distractions or interruptions. It’s a chance to recharge and reconnect with what truly matters to me.

What really makes this time special is the sense of tranquility it brings. Whether I’m out in nature or cozied up at home, there’s this undeniable feeling of calm that washes over me. It’s like hitting the reset button on my day and heading into the evening with a renewed sense of energy and purpose. And that, my friend, is why the late afternoon is my favorite time of day.
