The diagram illustrates the process of recycling plastic bottles into end products. Overall, the process highlights an efficient system for transforming waste plastic bottles into reusable material. It involves nine main steps, beginning with the collection of used bottles and ending with the production of new items.
Initially, plastic bottles are discarded in designated recycling bins (Step 1). These bins are then emptied by garbage trucks, which transport the bottles to a recycling centre (Step 2). At the recycling centre, the bottles are sorted based on their type and quality (Step 3). After sorting, the bottles are compressed into large blocks to facilitate handling (Step 4).
These blocks are then crushed into smaller pieces (Step 5) and washed to remove any contaminants (Step 6). The clean plastic pieces are then heated and melted to form plastic pellets (Step 7). These pellets serve as raw material (Step 8), which is subsequently moulded and processed into new products such as bottles, clothing, and other plastic items (Step 9), returning back to the beginning.
