The diagram illustrates the manufacturing process of sugar from sugar cane. This detailed sequence highlights the systematic approach in sugar production, emphasising the critical stages from initial growth to the final product.
The process begins with the growth of sugar canes, which typically takes 12-18 months. Once matured, the sugar canes are harvested using either machinery or manual labour.
Following harvesting, the canes are transported to a facility for crushing. This step extracts the juice from the sugar canes. The extracted juice then undergoes a purification process, where it is filtered through limestone to remove impurities.
After purification, the juice is transferred to an evaporator. Here, the juice is heated, causing it to thicken and transform into syrup. The syrup is then subjected to centrifugation, which separates the sugar crystals from the liquid.
The final stage involves drying and cooling the separated sugar crystals, resulting in the production of refined sugar. The entire process ensures the transformation of raw sugar cane into pure, consumable sugar.
