Course Content
The Academic IELTS Online Zoom course is an 18 hour course spread over 12 lessons, each 1.5 hours long. These are actual live lessons like you would have in a normal classroom with a teacher, me and a group of max 10 students. These are not prerecorded youtube videos just for you to watch. You will participate in class, talk to the other students, as well as the teacher.
For the course you will need to buy a coursebook, which is not included in the overall price. I just cannot order the books and send them to your address, it is much easier for you to buy the book at your location or online. The coursebook will be used throughout the course as well as for self study at home and is a vital part of the course.
The course will only have 10 students maximum, not like regular classes which can have 15 to 20 students. The limit is there for me, as a teacher to still be able to help you personally, like it would be in a one-to-one class. When you go beyond 10 students it’s too hard to really help every individual student with personalized feedback to improve.
The Academic IELTS course focuses on the 4 skills needed for the exam: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing:
Speaking
Together with the other students and the teacher we will have a look at the 3 different parts of the Speaking exam, Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. You will get the opportunity to practice the 3 different parts of the exam, as well as get feedback on your performance and how to improve your speaking score.
Additionally, outside the 18 hours you will have 2 full speaking exams of 15 minutes in a one-to-one session with me, the teacher. These 2 sessions will be individually booked at a time convenient for you and will take place outside the normal class. You will have 1 at the beginning of the course and 1 at the end of the course, to see your progress. These 2 full speaking exam sessions are worth 40£ each, totaling 80£ that you are getting for free included in the course. These 2 sessions should give you a good idea of how the exam works; what the examiner is looking for; how to improve your overall score; as well as see your progress throughout the course. You will get extensive personalised feedback on your speaking performance as well as personal tips to improve your speaking score.
Listening
In the classes we will have a look at how the listening exam works, as well as look at some strategies to improve your overall score. We will closely look at 4 different parts in the Listening exam as well as what kind of different listening you might get in each section. Most of the listening practice will be done outside the classroom as self study, to free up more valuable time for the more important Speaking and Writing practice. This means you will have to free up additional time for self study outside the 18 hours of the course.
Reading
In the classes we will have a look at how the Reading exam works, as well as look at some strategies to improve your overall score. We will closely look at 3 different parts in the Reading exam, as well as what kind of different question types you might get in each section. Most of the reading practice will be done outside the classroom as self study, to free up more valuable time for the more important Speaking and Writing practice. This means you will have to free up additional time for self study outside the 18 hours of the course.
Writing
Together with the other students we will have a closer look at the 2 different Tasks you will need to complete during the Writing exam. We will have a closer look at Writing Task 1, and exam writing a graph, process and map. We will look at what the examiner is looking for and how to improve your writing to get a better score. We will also have a look at Writing Task 2, how to deal with it, structure it, improve it, as well as what the examiner is looking for. That way we can improve your overall writing score.
Additionally, there are 4 full writing tasks included in the exam, where you will get full personal feedback on your writing and what you will need to do to improve it to get a better score. These are worth 80£ and are included in the course for free. You will do 2 full writings at the beginning of the course and 2 at the end. This will show your improvement and get you ready for the exam. On top of that you will do other writings outside the course in your free time to improve your writing score. The reason behind this is that most of the time the writing score of the exam is the lowest score of all 4 skills and therefore needs additional work to get a better overall score.

About the teacher
Hello, my name is Kristof Abrath and I will be your IELTS teacher.
I have been teaching English for over 15 years now. I have taught in Indonesia (6 months), Vietnam (2 years), Tunisia (2 years), Myanmar (3 years), Colombia (3 years), Czech Republic (2 years). I have taught all ages, levels and settings.
I have a degree in Adult Education as well as a Masters in Education. I have a CELTA, a DELTA and a young learner extension to the CELTA.
Currently, I’m teaching English classes for the British Council Prague, I have worked for the British Council more than 10 years now. I’m also doing TEFL teacher training for LIVETEFLPrague, where I train people to become English teachers. Additionally, I do private and online classes.
I have been running exams courses (FCE, CAE, IELTS) for the last 4 years and have successfully run more than 10 exams classes so far. This is the second Online Zoom Course I will be running for IELTS. The course is there for students to prepare for the Academic IELTS Exam and will cover all 4 skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing.

All classes come with additional materials after the class for self study. When the class is finished you will get access to:

Writing Task 2 structure
Having a look at the structure gives you a better idea of what you need to write about. Once you know which structure the examiner wants you to use, you will have more time for the actual writing and a much better score.
Speaking Part 2 tips
We can all do with some tips. That’s what the whole course is about: practicing, personal correction and feedback + tips from an experienced teacher to get a better score.
Writing Task 1 structure
For Writing Task 1 the examiner is looking for a specific structure which is very simple, but most students just don’t know it. That’s why we look at it during the course.
Resources for selfstudy
The course will also help you with resources for self study. In the end you are the one doing the exam and all the hard work. I’m just here to give you the right tools for success.
