Model Example Answer

Television advertising is a powerful tool that can influence viewers of all ages, especially children. Given the impressionable nature of young minds, there is a growing debate about whether TV advertisements targeted at children should be banned. This essay will discuss the potential harm such advertisements can cause and argue in favor of banning them.

Firstly, advertising campaigns aimed at children can have negative impacts on their health and well-being. Children are highly impressionable and often lack the critical thinking skills to recognize the persuasive intent of advertisements. For example, commercials promoting sugary cereals, fast food, and unhealthy snacks can encourage poor dietary habits, contributing to the rising rates of childhood obesity. A study conducted by the World Health Organization found a direct correlation between the exposure to junk food advertising and increased consumption of unhealthy foods among children. This illustrates how targeted advertising can adversely affect children’s health.

Secondly, advertising to children can exploit their naivety and foster materialistic values. Children are not yet capable of discerning the difference between needs and wants, making them susceptible to the allure of advertised toys, games, and other non-essential products. For instance, a commercial for the latest toy can create a sense of urgency and desire in children, leading them to pester their parents for purchases. This not only places financial pressure on families but also instills a culture of consumerism in young minds. As a result, children may grow up prioritizing material possessions over more meaningful values.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that advertising campaigns on TV targeted at children should be banned. Such advertisements can harm children’s health and manipulate their developing minds. To protect the well-being and integrity of the younger generation, regulations should be implemented to prevent advertisers from targeting children.
